Create Your Vision

How to manifest your dreams using a vision board.

My current vision board is on my phone screen, so I see it multiple times daily. It’s there to bring me joy. I've created vision boards to decorate interiors and design landscapes, including my daughter's natural playground (creeping pink thyme, sky-high sunflowers alongside the playhouse, and tree log jumping steps winding past a butterfly garden), or to create lesson plans, host parties, and design websites. Even as a kid, I’d sketch out my brain’s remodeling of my bedroom in the middle of the night while everyone else was asleep (and then immediately manifest my ideas). Vision boards are just visual lists, so here’s an ode to vision boards.

Creating Your Vision Board

Vision boards are a creative and inspiring manifestation of your ideas. While lists can bring a sense of calm to a never-ending stream of consciousness, vision boards clarify your goals and motivations, inspiring you toward the finish line. Both are a way of organizing your thoughts. If you haven’t created a vision board and are a visual thinker, you must try it out. You can have multiple vision boards, one all-encompassing vision board, or post images where you need inspiration, like on the treadmill or at your office desk. Vision boards can be digital, crafty, or classically arranged. I have a motivational vision board hanging in my “lounge” on a fabric-wrapped pin board, a joy-inspiring digital one I created on Canva, which is on my phone, and another “ideas” one I sketched out in my journal. Create whatever works for you.

Vision Board Ideas

Life Vision Board

Focus on your overall life goals, including career, relationships, health, and personal development.

Examples: Images of dream destinations, career milestones, family photos, quotes on personal growth.

Career Vision Board

Concentrate on professional aspirations, showcasing your career goals and achievements. Or to complete a project, lay out ideas and your vision of the finished work.

Examples: Images of desired job positions, certifications, and inspirational quotes from successful individuals. Sketch out an image of the completed work, so you see it in it’s competed form.

Health and Wellness Vision Board

Focus on physical and mental well-being; include fitness goals and healthy mantras. Set up an area of your home to inspire meditation.

Examples: Pictures of nutritious meals, workout routines, and affirmations promoting a healthy lifestyle. Calming visuals focus areas to create a quiet space.

Travel Vision Board

Highlight places you want to visit and experiences you wish to have.

Examples: Images of dream destinations, adventure activities, travel quotes.

Family Vision Board

Focus on family goals, including cooking together, vacations you’d like to go on, or healthy goals you want to achieve.

Examples: Photos of that desired vacation destination and pictures of all-sized sneakers lined up together.

Examples of
Vision Board Elements

Visuals

Include images and pictures that represent your goals. If you aspire to travel, add pictures of your dream destinations. If you're aiming for a promotion, include images related to success in your field. If you want to redesign your interior, find textiles and paint chips that reflect your vision.

Quotes

Inspirational quotes can serve as daily reminders of your aspirations. Choose quotes that resonate with your goals and motivate you to stay focused. Paint them on wooden boards.

Affirmations

Write positive affirmations that align with your vision. These affirmations can reinforce your belief in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. Find wall clings and add them to your workspace.

Goals Breakdown

Break down larger goals into smaller, achievable tasks. For instance, if your goal is to run a marathon, include pictures of running shoes, a race bib, and a training schedule.

Fabrics and Samples

Collect colors and textiles when looking to decorate. If you’re remodeling your kitchen, gather pictures of kitchen designs you love, paint chip colors you’re considering, and a sketch of your vision of how you want your kitchen laid out.  If you’re deciding on a branding scheme, find images and colors and put them against your logo design.
